Frequently asked questions

What is Stranger Things?

Stranger Things is a Netflix series set  in the fictional town of Hawkins, Indiana, in                the 1980s, the first season focuses on the investigation into the disappearance of a young boy amid supernatural events occurring around the town including the appearance of a girl with psychokinetic abilities who helps the missing boy's friends in their own search. The second season, titled Stranger Things 2, is set a year after the first, and deals with attempts of the characters to return to normal and consequences that linger from the first season.

Do I need to have watched or know anything about the series?

Not at all! You only need to be aware of a few things, such as a demogorgon, the upside down, which are explained below. Otherwise how much you know about the world of Stranger Things will depend on how much you want your character to know. If you want your character to be completely oblivious, then you don't have to do any research whatsoever and you can discover the world along with your muse.

What's the Upside Down?

The Upside Down is an alternate dimension existing in parallel to the human world.              It contains the same locations and infrastructure as the human world, but it is much darker, colder and obscured by an omnipresent fog. The Upside Down is devoid of human life, instead being overgrown with ropy, root-like tendrils and biological membranes covering practically every surface.

This is where the demogorgons live. The upside down can be accessed through gates created by the monsters. The main gate is created by a deceased prodigy child at the new Hawkins lab. Characters can get in and out or get stuck there.

What's a demogorgon?

The Monster is tall and thin with a humanoid figure. Its head has no facial features                and opens like a flower to reveal nothing but teeth. It bears clawed feet and hands, and its skin appears to be coated in fluids.

Not much is known about the creature. It comes out of the Upside Down when it smells blood and eats humans as well as animals. But it can also roam in the city without provocation. They can also appear smaller as younger demogorgons who walk on four legs (like a dog - called demodogs). They're hatched from eggs and shed a slime-like skin every time they become bigger.

Why only kinetic powers?

I'd like to keep it as close as possible to the Stranger Things universe.  So far we know that Hawkin's lab kidnapped children and trained them in a way they developed kinetic powers (this may be because the mothers had taken psychedelic drugs - at least that is Eleven's mother's case). So far the only gifted characters we have seen have only kinetic powers. If in the next season, there are other kind of powers, I'd be glad to broaden the possibilities, but for now, I'd like to keep it like this.
