After the scandal of Hawkin's lab in the 80's, Hawkins moved their research to South Korea. They built their labs in Jinsan, a town in the south of the country. There, they recruited new children to continue their experiments on. ​Little did they know they created the same problem as in Hawkins, except on a much bigger scale. A portal was unknowingly opened by one of the children, who died as a consequence. The scientists assumed it was because of exhaustion and covered up the death.

Another scandal broke in 2000. The children who were still in their labs were released and adopted by families. Those who were already adults were allowed korean citizenships. But no one knew about the few children who had escaped during the years.

Everything seems fine if not for the demogorgons lurking around.
